Metallics made a comeback in a big way on the Fall/Winter 2009 runways, and Shiseido is bringing to the forefront in their latest collection. Metallics certainly aren't for everyone, but we happen to love them!

Makeup lovers, like fashion lovers, often look to the runways to tell us where we should go next. If the Lela Rose fashion show was any indication, we're all going to the beach.

For the show, the makeup was done by Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics. Sarah said the look they were going for was a "seashell look on the eyes". Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 was applied to the face, with Fandango Duo Shadow applied to eyelids, Camelia Convertible Color on the browbone and Cobalt Smudge Pot in inner corners. Cheeks were naturally flushed using Pomegranate Crush Stain. Lips were nude, using Camellia Convertible Color. Black Major Major Mascara completed the look. Prior to makeup application, various Darphin products were used to prepare the skin.

Hair by Ted Gibson of Ted Gibson Salons was also inspired by a day at the beach and featured tousled, wavy hair and pony tails. The look was one of not trying too hard. Hair was spritzed with Build It Blow Drying Spray, dried, scrunched and then pulled into a pony tail. Hair was then finished with Tame It and Hold It products. In some cases, clip-on extensions were used.

Nails by Deborah Lippmann were envisioned to be an "extension of skin". To get the effect, Deborah used Fashion, an opaque beige shade, on tips and toes. Deborah sees this shade as the new sheer pink. She told me that this shade was the one she uses most often for high fashion editorials. For the Lela Rose show, Fashion played into the beachy theme perfectly.

I'm not sure why we're just now hearing about Yes To Carrots, an environmentally friendly, organic cosmetics company, but we're sad that we've gone this long without it. We tried their C Me Shine Playful Nude Lip Gloss and were instantly reminded of another product we've tried before, MAC Lipgelee ($14). The see-through gloss has much the same consistency and sheen of our beloved MAC product, but it's half the price. How could you not love that?

We love to wear daring bright lip colors, but we can't seem to make them last all day. We layered on our newest crimson red to deepen the shade and at first blush were most impressed with the results. But as the day wore on our color started to smudge and then it started to feather. It looked as if pigment had seeped into all of the cracks of our lips and then found a nice downstream route onto the rest of our face. The lesson? Invest in lip primer if you are serious about lipcolor. Here are our favorites. Philosphy Big Mouth Primer, Urban Decay Cosmetics Lip Primer Potion.

We cannot wait for the return of the Whitney Port centered spinoff of "The Hills", "The City," to return to MTV. But in the meantime, we were delighted to find that we can still get a piece of Whitney via her collaboration with Cargo cosmetics. Whit-Whit's designed a special edition lipstick for the brand. The bright pink color is called Eve Pinky (Eve is Whitney's middle name), and is part of Cargo’s Plant Love collection, which means it’s 100 percent natural and ECOCERT certified.

For the longest we've used liquid soap and water to wash our Mac Brushes (Big no no!). A friend suggested that we switch to the same alcohol free products she uses to remove make- up on her face and her brushes Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser.

We tried it, and not only did our brushes dry in about 10 minutes, they were very clean. A must-have for beauty snobs.
